salmon cakes

salmon cakes

mom’s recipe

this recipe was originally for salmon burgers but i forgot to buy buns at the store so i tweaked it a little bit to make salmon cakes (like crab cakes) instead of salmon burgers!

salmon cakes:

1 salmon filet

4 sprigs of green onion, finely chopped

1/2 small red onion, finely chopped

1 egg

2 cup breadcrumbs

2 tbsp dill

1 tsp parsley

salt and pepper

heat outdoor grill to medium heat.  in a bowl, combine all ingredients (only 1 cup of the breadcrumbs) and combine throughly with hands.  place the other cup of breadcrumbs in a small bowl.  once combined, take a hand full of the mixture and form into a small patty.  take the patty and dust in the bowl of breadcrumbs to coat the outside.  do this for all patties (may need to add more breadcrumbs for dusting).  spray grill pan with cooking spray.  place patties on grill pan and cook on each side for 7 to 10 minutes depending on heat of grill.

dill sauce:

1 cup plain yogurt

1/4 light mayo

2 tbsp dill

1 tsp garlic salt

salt and pepper

combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir until incorporated.  serve on side or on top of salmon!  we served the salmon cakes with a rice/quinoa mixture!

  1. These small salmon cakes look yum! I can smell the bbqed salmon flavour now

  2. Wait. How did u grind up the salmon? I’ve never made them before but they sound delicious.

    • I cut it into really small pieces before and then used my hands to mush it a bit more in the mixture. It wasn’t completely ground, a left it a bit chunky! You should try it!

  3. looks amazing… and I love the look of that frying pan for the BBQ…. going to have to go hunting & see if I can find one :-)
