smoked cheddar drop biscuits

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 6 Tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 cup shredded smoked cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

preheat oven to 450 degrees. in a mixing bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder and cayenne pepper.  stir in smoked cheddar cheese. cubed butter into small blocks and add to flour mixture.  using your hands, rub butter into mixture until evenly distributed. pour in milk and heavy cream and stir with a wooden spoon just until combined.  the batter should be lumpy. with a spoon, take a scoop from the mixture and drop the batter onto a sprayed baking sheet. bake until golden brown for about 10 minutes.
